mdf board vs particle board

what is particle board

Particle board weight made of wood chips(wood shavings, sawdust. or similar material) or non-wood plant scraps (flax shavings, bagasse, wheat straw, straw. or similar wood composite material) hot pressed  fine wood fiber together with adhesive. in a word Particle board is an engineered wood product made from waste products like wood chips. sawdust and wood shavings.

Made from a hot pressed composite of. wood-based waste  foundational material bound together with formaldehyde resin. particleboard is a dense building material used commonly since the 1960s. Good for many applications including countertops, cabinetry, doors, floors, wall paneling. and furniture, particleboard is denser than wood and stronger. When coated with veneer or painted, its outward appearance improves. Compared to other fiberboards or composite, wood-based building materials, it is weaker.

types of particle board

Graded-Density Particle Boards

Graded-density particle boards are like three-layer particle boards. They have an inner core of coarse wood particles sandwiched. between two outer layers of finer particles. But, unlike a three-layer particle board, the transition. between the coarse surface to the finer ones is gradual. Graded-density particle boards used in cabinet construction and for furniture components.

Laminated Particle Board

Laminated particle board manufactured by. attaching a thin layer of laminates on the surface of plain particle board. The lamination enhances beauty and increases durability of particle board. Laminated particle board used to make modular kitchen. as well as wardrobes and shelves. particularly shutters, as it avoids next polishing and painting.

Veneered Particle Board

Veneers are a very thin slice of wood which obtained from a tree log. Veneered particle board manufactured by attaching veneer. on the top surface of the plain particle board. Veneered particle boards have more resistance to warping, as they sealed. They provide the aesthetics of a natural wood in low budget cost.

Single-Layer Particle Board

Single-layer particle boards made from pressing. together wood particles of similar sizes to form a flat, dense board. This type of particle board is suitable as a base for plastic lamination. and veneering, but not for painting. Single-layer particle boards used for interior applications. They have some water-resistance capabilities, but are not waterproof.

Three-Layer Particle Board

A three-layer particle board. made from sandwiching a layer of larger wood particles. between two layers of high-density. finer wood particles. The outer layers have a higher amount of resin adhesive than the inner layer. Three-layer particle boards have smooth outer layers that are suitable for painting. These boards are not as dense as single-layer boards and tend to split.

Cement Bonded Particle Board

As the name implies, this board uses cement as a bonding agent and has high resistant to moisture, fire and rot. Cement bonded particle board manufactured using cement (60%). wood waste particulate like wood chips, sawdust, wooden shavings (20%) and water (20%).

Due to cement content, these boards are more durable, fire-resistant and termite resistant. The cement bonded particle board has high expansion. and shrinkage properties in presence of moisture. They are generally used in the production of fire resistant furniture. false ceiling, internal. and external walls and permanent shuttering for concrete floors and walls.

Melamine Particle Board

A sheet of melamine-impregnated decor paper. attached on the top surface of the plain particle board. under heat and pressure. Also, melamine-urea formaldehyde resin used. along with wax emulsion to bond the particle board. and make it water resistant.

Melamine particle boards are very durable and have resistant to scratches. They have application in various fields such as wall claddings. wall paneling, modular kitchen, wardrobes, and office furniture. They are available in various colours. and textures to impart decorative look to the interior of your house.

Common specifications of  wastewood product: 2440 × 1220mm common. thickness: 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 16mm, 18mm, 25mm.

1. Woodworking board (commonly known as big core board). woodworking board (commonly known as big core board) is a plywood with a solid core. Its vertical (distinguished by core board strike) flexural and compressive strength is poor. but its transverse flexural and compressive strength is high. Now most of the market is solid, glue go all out, double sided arenaceous smooth, joinery board. it is one of board that often USES in adornment at present.

2. OSB board particle-board oson board large core board (joinery). is generally 1220 × 2440 in length and width. Oson board generally has a thickness of 18mm.

3. The core furniture board is only 18mm thick.

4, MFC board has 3mm5mm9mm12mm16mm18mm25mm36mm particle board thickness. there is also a board is density board. but the environmental protection is poor is generally used in architectural decoration . above rarely used.

5, the regular furniture factory inside the plate specifications. are many kinds of but the most common is also 1220 by 2440. solid wood tooth plate has 900 by 2400 1220 by 2440.

particle board price

The price of particle board depends on the factory, variety, specification. material particle board sold according to sheet. normally it is low cost. less expensive. the standard size of wood industry particle board is 2440 × 1220mm. the price related to the environmental protection grade and thickness. The price has a lot to do with the brand, specification and grade of these two materials. The price of E1 grade 18mm particle board is 22USD per sheet. and the domestic 8mm thick fire board is about 8USD per sheet.

particle board uses

Particleboard is commonly used in lower-end wood grain furniture. floor underlayment and as a substrate for kitchen and bathroom countertops. The material can milled with all power tools but is subject to a moderate amount of tearout. The smooth surface of melamine chipboard is usually finished with a thin layer of laminate. or veneer best uses to improve its appearance. Particleboard is difficult to mold or shape because of its tendency to chip and break.

mdf what is ?

Medium density fiberboardis a product developed in the mid-1960s. The reason is that it has excellent physical and mechanical properties. decorative properties and processing properties.

Medium density fiberboard is a kind of board. mdf  board is mainly made of artificial fast-growing small-diameter wood, branch wood, cutting leftovers. and processing leftovers. Medium density board density of 550 kg -880 kg/m3, density board density ≥880 kg/m3. The above products are mainly used for building interior decoration. floor substrate, furniture manufacturing vehicle. and ship decoration, household electrical appliance shell manufacturing. and carving various craft relief products.

types of mdf board

-green  fiberboard mdf are moisture resistant mdf

-wood fiber red or blue MDF which is fire retardant mdf  wood veneer

-Ultra-light MDF plate (ULDF)

-High Density Fiberboard

Also called as hardboard. high density fiberboard made of compressed wood fibers that are much denser. harder and stronger compared to particle board and medium density fiberboard. With a density of 600-1450 kg/m³. high density fiberboard is ideal for high-quality furniture, flooring, cabinet-making. automobile dashboard panels, and construction projects.

-MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)

Medium density fiberboard is another type of fiberboard composed of flakes of hardwood. and softwood combined by applying a resin binder and wax with a density ranging from 600-800 kg/m³. It is commonly used in the shop fitting business, loudspeaker enclosures. and on school projects. MDF is much denser than conventional plywood. and is often used as a substitute to plywood where greater strength. and flexibility required.

mdf sheets thickness

1. Thickness specifications (mm) : 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 4, 4.5, 4.75, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 18, 22, 25, etc.

2, format size (mm) : 1220*2440 (4*8 feet), (of course, 5*8 feet, 6*8 feet, 6*9 feet, 7*9 feet), 2070*2500 (door substrate size). 2100*2500 (door substrate size), 1260*2470 (floor substrate size), etc.

mediumdensity fiberboard application

MDF preferred by manufacturers of higher-end furniture, cabinetry and shelving. This panel-board type is easier to mill than particleboard . because it resists chipping and tearing. MDF can shaped and molded by all power tools and is so widely used for molding. MDF may finished with veneer or laminate and, unlike particleboard, mediumdensity fiberboard accepts paint. without undue  water damage absorption or undesirable warping.

mdf price

1. At present, there are many brands of this kind of plate. and their prices are different for different brands. And density board can divided again by use a lot, main ply also has a lot of. So what's the density board going to cost? There is no fixed answer

2. Materials and the thickness of materials determine the price.

There are different types of engineered wood. available in the market like plywood, MDF, hardboard. particle board, blockboard, etc. Particle board. and MDF are both engineered wood products used for home décor and furniture making. Most manufacturers suggest both for all purposes. and hence homeowners confused about which material should used where.

When we compare particle board vs MDF there arises confusion. as both these materials have similar look. but varying cost. Homeowners are also confused as how do these materials differ from each other.

Both particleboard and MDF or medium-density fiberboard pressed wood products. that formed by using a hot press machine that squeezes the component materials into. flat boards of varying thickness. Particleboard. and MDF share advantages over solid wood and plywood density, uniformity, and price. While solid wood is far more attractive as a finish material. often the under layers of cabinets, paneling. and furniture made from either particleboard or MDF.

Comparing the price, density, strength, and durability of particleboard and MDF. you will find that they are quite similar. But, he two wood-based composite materials indeed different.

The Composite Panel Association. compared the requirements for shelving using particleboard versus MDF for shelves. 12 inches or narrower, at various loads. For a single-span shelf of 1/2-inch thickness. supported only at the ends with no middle bracket involved and carrying a load of 50 lbs. per square foot, 13 inches of particleboard required. An MDF shelf must be 15 inches long. Particleboard bends more and must be either supported or used in shorter spans than MDF.
