   In North America and Europe, OSB is man-made structural panel . The OSB  furniture manufacturing, decoration, building construction, packaging materials and other fields. 


  Oriented strand board (OSB). made by mixing rectangularly-shaped wood flakes (strands) with waterproof adhesive. and creating alternating layers where the strands run perpendicular. to each other for stability. The layers are then hot-pressed into a wood panel.


     As the name suggests, OSB is a board composed of wood strands. all which oriented or arranged in a manner that maximizes durability and strength. The strands of wood manufactured from softened pieces of wood. and then bonded together to form the board. Each wood strand covered with a resin adhesive. The strands are then oriented at right angles to each other to form a layer. The layer is then passed through very high heat and pressure, which helps in the bonding process. The end result Oriented Strand Board. which coated with a sealant to protect the material from moisture.

Proper acclimatization has to done before subfloor installation to achieve long-lasting results. Besides to that, underlay paper must installed between hardwood and OSB. Nowadays, most hardwood manufacturers. approve OSB board usage as a proper subfloor for wood laminate flooring.


   But, OSB boards are not suited for tile installation or osb shelves.  Both ceramic and porcelain tile need hardyback. or cement board installed over existing subfloor before tile installation.

Particle board used as second subfloor for the carpet coverings building materials. It adds extra softness and lifts the floor a bit in case you want it to match the floor level in the rest of the house. Particle Board helps if part of the floor covered with 3/4" thick hardwood floor. and you don't want to have thresholds or reducers.

    Particle board is not an appropriate underlayment for hardwood of any type. In fact, it's hardly acceptable for most carpets anymore. Particle board underlayment Looks like oatmeal. and consists of tiny wood particles glued and pressed into 4 x 8 foot sheets. It is NOT suitable to use as a Structural subfloor material.


     If this type of underlayment is present. it will have to removed when planning to install a nail or glue down hardwood floor. If desired. Particle Board Underlayment can left in place if a Floating engineered wood floor. or a Floating Laminate floor system is going to installed over it.
