Chipboard is also called particle board and bagasse board. A shredded material made of wood or other lignocellulosic material. which is a synthetic board that glued under the action of heat. and pressure after application of an adhesive. and is also called a particle board. used in the furniture and construction industry. and in the manufacture of trains and cars.
Because the structure of the Chipboard is uniform. and the processing performance is good. it can processed into a large-format sheet according to the needs. and is a good raw material. for making furniture of different specifications and styles. Chipboard made up of wood chips bound together with resin. and pressed into a flat, rectangular shape. Pieces of wood that are too small, warped. or otherwise defective for use as lumber splintered into small chips. and mixed with sawdust.

As it composed of wood chips, wood shavings. and sawdust which are waste materials and have very less weight. particle boards are also light in weight as. compared to medium density fiberboard or plywood. Due to its lightweight nature, they are easy to transport and handle. Although they are light in weight, their density is more than natural wood and plywood. Medium density fiberboards and high density fiberboards are denser than particle boards.
Particle boards have low strength as they. made from weak materials like wood chips and sawdust. They cannot withstand heavy loads and used when load application is less.
-Resistance to Moisture:
One of the most concerned properties of particle board is that it has low resistance to moisture. In the presence of moisture. the boards experience swelling and development of cracks may occur. Also, on exposure to moisture, particle board gets discoloured.
-Resistance to Warping:
Particle boards have low resistance to warping, but coating it with primer. or painting the particle board, can improve its resistance. The coating also helps in increasing its strength up to some extent.
As it has low strength, particle boards are less durable as compared to plywood or solid wood. They last 3-5 years, but with proper care they have a durability of few more years. The durability can increased by covering the surface with laminates or wood veneer. Laminated particle board and veneered particle board have useful life of 10-15 years.
Particle boards have good sound insulation properties. thus they used in partition walls and ceilings of recording studios. and concert halls.
Particle board can made fire resistant by attaching a layer of melamine on the top surface. Melamine particle boards used in manufacturing of industrial furniture.

According to the national standard control of Chipboard . the standard Chipboard standard specifies three dimensions: dimensional tolerance. appearance and physical and mechanical properties:
First, the dimensional tolerance: the length, width. and thickness tolerance of the particle board. The national standard has strict regulations. and only the positive tolerance allowed for the length and width. and the negative tolerance is not allowed. The thickness tolerance determined according to the smooth. and smooth sanding product and the rough surface of the unsanded product.
After sanding products, the quality is high. and the thickness tolerance of the board is uniform. The unsanded product has a lower precision. and the thickness and thickness tolerance are not uniform throughout the same sheet.
Second, the appearance of quality: Judged by visual methods. If the surface layer and the core layer of the board are not graded, the surface of the shavings is rough. and its physical and mechanical properties are poor. which is not conducive to the later finishing treatment.
